The story follows Polly, a barmaid from the tiny country of Borogravia who disguises herself as a boy and joins the army, in the hope that she can find her brother who went away to war and never came back. It is, along with ‘ Small Gods’ and ‘ Feet of Clay’, one of the books where Sir Terry’s manifesto shines through he’s got something to tell you and woe betide anyone who isn’t ready to listen. It isn’t my favourite but objectively I must say that it is certainly one of the technically best books of the series. ‘ Monstrous Regiment’ is a powerhouse of a novel. We’re all busy people, after all, and my new goal of July 2017 seems very reasonable to me. ![]() I well into my second year of this re-read marathon, when I hoped it would be done in just over a year, but I am going to take my own advice and not beat myself up about it. ![]() So here we are, a new year and a new book. As Sir Terry was so fond of reminding us, optimism and the sheer stubborn refusal to give up is often all we have. Phew! We made it, guys – 2017 is here, finally, and it is not mindless optimism talking when I say that I hope everyone who suffered in 2016 suffers a great deal less in 2017, and that things pick up for all of us. ![]()

![]() ![]() Not so great part of the book: The fact that Amy made me cry. I loved that she really stood up for herself and her "family". I knew that she would do anything to protect Reed and in this book she did! She did the one thing that I never thought she would do. In Inescapable she was just starting to really understand what was happening (as best she could) to her. Is it possible that Amy could have created a better book than book 1: Inescapable? OH YES!!īest part of the book: Evie. I’m alive, but how much longer will it take until I beg him not to be? It is true, at work women are paid less, within the book the author found that from the ages of 25 to 60 a woman earns $225,000, whilst a man earns $750,000, which is triple of a woman’s lifetimes earnings. Nor will we prevent men from hitting the restart button at 40 to grab the jackpot of an energetic, young wife with gravity-defying boobs.’ ‘We girls can’t and won’t protest or legislate our way out of inequality in the workplace. The book encouraged women to aim for the best deal in a game designed for us to lose, the authors state: I found it interesting how the writer managed to repackage the system they lived in before the women in their socio-economic class (middle class), decided they needed liberation and that they wanted to ‘work’ and be treated equal to men, despite poor and working-class women at that time already working, tending to the home and their children. ![]() ![]() As a reader from a different cultural and socioeconomic background, where this is the norm - but dare not said aloud. ![]() ![]() ![]() And what a conclusion! If you asked me a week ago, I honestly think my answer would be different, but after a couple of days everything suck in and I have to say that I enjoyed the reading. In simples words – I’m happy, it was everything that I was expecting for a conclusion. Every book presented courageous heroines (also smart), strong/sexy heroes (if we ignore the fact that their only purpose was killing all mankind, because well…we are part of it), sexy scenes and a fantasy world. Ana Bookshelves Blogīut let’s talk about Death, the last book of the Four Horsemen and the reason of this post! Since the beginning, the series took my sleep because I couldn’t rest until I finish each book. ![]() Probably because of all the pandemic restrictions, two years ago I remember to receive a book sometimes in less than a week and now it’s almost a month until I have it in my house.
